The program utilizes community volunteers to make regular contact with this specific population and act as advocates on their behalf. As of 2012, these same services are available in the Bakersfield area, under the name SAGE (Seniors Active, Giving and Engaged). In the remote areas of Kern County the program is still referred to as VSOP (Volunteer Senior Outreach Program.)
