In addition to filing the statement with the County Clerk, it is your responsibility to check the FBN Index in our office to determine if the business name you have chosen is available.
A Fictitious Business Name Search may conducted in person, by mail, or over the internet. We cannot conduct Fictitious Business Name search over the telephone.

To conduct a search by mail:

1. Mail a written request
2. Include name of business
3. Include address of business, if known

The search fee is $8.00. If the search reveals the business name, the copy fee is .75¢ or $2.00 for a certified copy. A check or money order payable to Kern County Clerk must accompany the request and should also include a self addressed stamped envelope. The search fee is a non-refundable. A "No Record Found" statement will be issued if a record is not found.
