2008 KERN COUNTY CODE OF BUILDING REGULATIONS 

The Kern County Engineering, Surveying & Permit Services Department is a service organization that facilitates land development for Kern County. The following are the sections that make up the Engineering & Survey Services Department:

Departmental Sections

• Building Inspection - Provides Building Plan review and Inspection Services.
• Code Compliance - Enforces County Zoning, Substandard Buildings and public nuisance regulations.
• County Service Area - Special District to provide streetlights, landscape maintenance, and other government services.
• County Surveyor - Reviews Tract, Parcel, and Record-of-Survey maps to comply with California State Law and Local Ordinance. Write Legal Descriptions for our own and other departments. Perform field surveys for our own and other County departments.
• County Mapping and Survey information
• Public Information Counter - Contains for public viewing and research historic surveying, mapping and aerial photographic records.
• Drainage - Design, Maintain, and Monitor pollutant discharges from the County's storm water management infrastructure. Grading/Drainage/NPDES Applicability.
• Engineering - Review and inspect street, sewer, water, drainage, and grading plans for County projects and development permits. Assess and monitor surface mining activity. Collect floodplain mapping and hydrologic data. Implement and oversee National Flood Insurance Program.
• Drafting/GIS - Provide drafting, mapping, and geographic information systems services for engineers for engineering department. Supports emergency dispatch functions with road and address components.
