Mail Services
Hidden in the downtown Justice Building is a team of employees dedicated to the mission of mail delivery services. They often go unnoticed but work diligently to deliver and pick-up envelopes and parcels from 66 locations throughout Kern County.

The Mail Services staff leaves each morning at 9 and again at 1 PM for mail delivery and pick-up. Handling an average of 13,000 pieces of mail each day, the volume impacts the time couriers arrive at individual County locations. Regardless, the Mail Services team attempts same time delivery and pick-up as much as possible.

Services include Interoffice Mail and United States Postal Service (USPS) Mail with tracking, overnight, express, certified and registered mail options.
  • United States Postal Service mail: County Mail Services maintains daily contact with the USPS - staying current on regulation changes and rate increases. The Post Office picks-up and delivers directly to the mail room every day. Together with the USPS and Bakersfield Presort, the County is able to provide discounted postage rates on qualifying mail. Contact the mail room to see if you qualify for these discounts. Mail is metered at the mail room facility; departments are billed for postage. Stamped mail, sent through the system, is automatically forwarded to the Post Office.
  • Interoffice mail: Because Mail Services provides interoffice delivery to many individuals in many locations, when addressing interoffice mail please write the full name of the individual as well as the full department name (no abbreviations). It's not necessary to write who the envelope is from, however cross out previous information as this causes a delay in delivery. To request empty interoffice envelopes, contact the mail room at 868-4670.
Periodically, rate changes occur - impacting costs and delivery. To find out how to save on postage, contact Kern County Mail Services at (661) 868-4670 or email us at lcanas@co.kern.ca.us
