09/23/16   Buena Vista Aquatic Recreation Area Temporary Closure of Lake Evans and West Entry Gate (PDF)
September 30th through October 11th and November 15th through November 19th, Lake Evans and the West Entry Gate at the Buena Vista Aquatic Recreation Area will be closed to the public.
09/07/16   Spray Parks will remain open thru September 30, 2016
The Spray Parks will remain open 7 days per week at the following Kern County Parks: Casa Loma Park 1:00-5:00 p.m., Lost Hills, Mojave East, and Pioneer Parks 12:00-7:00 p.m.
09/01/16   Walking Path to be Constructed at Potomac Park
Construction will begin on a walking path project that will encompass the entire parameter of Potomac Park beginning in mid-October 2016 and will continue until approximately mid-January 2017. The park will be open during construction but park patrons are advised to exercise caution while visiting the park until the project has been completed.
08/09/16   Water Level Warning - Buena Vista Aquatic Recreational Area
06/23/16   Jet skis, Kayaks and Pedal Boats are now available for rent at Lake Webb by the hour, or all day.

06/14/16   Fireworks Ban in Kern County Parks
It is unlawful for any person to possess, discharge or use any fireworks, including fireworks defined and classified as "safe and sane" within any Kern County Park. This provision shall not apply to Pyrotechnic Operators licensed by the State of California engaged in the preparations for or performance of a public fireworks display, providing the operator possesses any applicable local permits regulating the use, discharge or possession of fireworks. Any person who violates this ban shall be fined as specified in section 17.32.026 of the Kern County Fire Code. The fines begin at $1,500 for the first violation, $2,000 for the second violation and $2,500 for the third violation. 05/23/16   An unscheduled vacancy has occurred on the Kern County Heritage Commission. (PDF)
The Heritage Commission shall ring the Liberty Bell on Lincoln's Birthday, Washington's Birthday, Loyalty Day, Armed Forces Day, Memorial Day, Flag Day, Independence Day, California Admission Day, Veteran's Day and any event of special significance deemed appropriate by the Board of Supervisors and the Heritage Commission. The Commission shall secure interested organizations to conduct the ceremonies appropriate to the occasions with a member of the Commission or his designate to be present and responsible for ringing the bell.

Any person interested in being considered to fill said vacancy should immediately file in writing a statement identifying the particular board, commission or committee on which he or she would like to serve, name, address, telephone number, résumé of work and education experience, and a brief statement of other qualifications.

11/03/15   2016 'All Lakes' and 'Lake Isabella Only' boat permits are now available for sale online.

We are pleased to announce that 2016 Kern County Annual "All Lakes", and "Lake Isabella Only" boat permits are now available for sale online. For additional information, please contact the Kern County Parks and Recreation Department at (661) 868-7000 during regular business hours, Monday - Friday from 8:00 am until 5:00 pm. To place your boat permit order by phone, call the above number.

08/26/15   Parks Administration Office closed for lunch
Beginning September 7th, the Parks Administration Office at 2820 M Street in Bakersfield will be closed for lunch Monday - Friday between the hours of 1pm to 2pm.
08/19/14   Buena Vista Front Gate Hours Changing Effective August 23rd
On Monday through Wednesday evenings, the front gate will now be closing at 8:00 PM instead of 10:00 PM. When staff closes the gate for the day, a sign will be placed at the kiosk to direct customers to pay their fees the next morning before 9:00 AM.
