Who Takes My Trash?

There are a number of different entities that haul waste.  If you live within a city boundary, please contact your local city office.

If you live in the unincorporated area of Kern County, private franchise haulers are contracted to provide service.   Check the yellow pages of your phone directory for the garbage collection company in your area.

Where Can I Take My Trash?

If you live in a city boundary, please contact the city office directly. If you live in the unincorporated area of Kern County, you have the following choices:

 

Landfills/Transfer Stations (click on link to find locations and what is accepted)

 

Drop-off Recycling Centers (click on link to find locations)

 

Recycling

 

Household Hazardous Waste (motor oil, paints, etc.)

What Are The Hours Of Operation For The County Waste Facilities?

Go to the Facilities page to find the hours of operation for each individual County waste site.

What Is Non-Chargeable Residential Waste?

Any residential debris that is not a tire, dead animal or a material resulting from construction, demolition, or remodeling of residential property. Click on the following link to see examples of non-chargeable waste:  non-chargeable residential waste.

What Is Residential Construction/Demolition Waste?

Construction or demolition waste is non-hazardous building materials or debris (including packaging of same) resulting from construction, remodeling, repair or demolition of residential property or related material. 

What Can The Public Do With Construction Or Demolition Material?

Avoid disposal charges by sorting your load and taking your construction / demolition material to a recycling facility. Check the Recycle It page for more locations and information.

What Are Drop-Off Recycling Centers?

A drop-off recycling center is a place residents can go to recycle newspaper, cardboard, aluminum and tin cans, glass and plastic bottles. Check out our Recycling Centers page for locations and more info.

What Is Household Hazardous Waste?

Household Hazardous Wastes are products that are purchased for use in or around the home, that when discarded, may threaten human health or the environment if disposed of improperly.  Check out the Household Hazardous Waste page for examples and where you can dispose of this type of waste.
