Travel Trailer Dismantling Pilot Program

The Kern County Waste Management Department is proud to announce a new travel trailer dismantling service for East Kern County residents. This appointment-based program will offer residents a cost-effective way of disposing travel trailers at the Ridgecrest Sanitary Landfill. Residents are asked to complete the Travel Trailer Dismantling Form and call 862-8900 to set up an appointment to deliver unwanted travel trailers. The fee for dismantling and disposal is $100 per travel trailer plus $40.50 per ton. Click here for more information.

Keep Kern Roads Clean Program

The Keep Kern Roads Clean program is the road to a cleaner county. Individuals, organizations, and businesses volunteer to clean-up sections of roadside within Kern County's Road System. From Lost Hills to Boron; Shafter to Frasier Park; Lamont to Inyokern; flyaway trash, tossed-out litter and illegal dumping plague our roadways. The Keep Kern Roads Clean program is our way to fight back and take back the place we call home.

This is a joint program of the Kern County Roads Department, the Kern County Waste Management Department and the nonprofit environmental organization Community Clean Sweep.

Sharps Disposal Program

Improper disposal of used "sharps" (needles, syringes and lancets) can injure children, home health care providers, sanitation workers and pets. Now there is a safe solution!

Bring your used sharps to one of the two Kern County Special Waste Facility locations for proper and convenient disposal. Free "Biohazard" rigid plastic sharps containers are available at the collection facilities for you to use at home. For safety reasons sharps will not be accepted in liquid detergent bottles, bleach bottles, coffee cans, glass containers, milk jugs or soda bottles.

Sharps should be placed into a container immediately after use. Do not attempt to remove, bend, break or recap the needle. Keep all sharps and disposal containers out of reach of children. For more information call (661) 862-8922 OR (800) 552-KERN, option 6. This program is for home generated sharps only - NO BUSINESSES.
